חברת האבטחה סימנטק הוציאה עדכון אבטחה לפרצה שנמצאה בתוכנת האנטי-וירוס המפורסמת שלה. הפרצה עליה מדובר קיימת בגרסת האנטי-וירוס למערכת ההפעלה חלונות ברכיב אשר בודק נוכחות וירוסים בקבצי RAR (פורמט דחיסה לקבצים). דווח של אתר האינקווייירר.
מחברת סימנטק נמסר כי פרצת האבטחה לא היוותה סכנה גדולה. כל מה שנגרם בעקבות הפרצה היא קריסה של הרכיב האחראי על פירוק הקבצים כאשר קובץ RAR ייחודי התקבל לפירוק וסריקת ווירוסים. הסכנה הייתה טמונה בקבצי RAR שהוטמן בהם קוד זדוני שנועדו לעקוף את מערכת האנטי-וירוס באמצעות הפרצה הנ"ל.
הפרצה התגלתה ברכיב תוכנה ספציפי ששימש אך ורק לזמן מוגבל, כך שלא ברור בדיוק כמה גרסאות סובלות מהפרצה. באתר הבית של סימנטק ניתן לקרוא ביתר פירוט על הפרצה ולראות בדיוק האם תוכנת האנטי-וירוס שלכם צריכה את עדכון האבטחה האמור.

Overview A vulnerability has been identified in the Windows version of the Symantec Antivirus component responsible for decomposition of encoded / archived content. The vulnerability causes the decomposer component to crash when a unique RAR file is received for decomposing and scanning. Malicious content placed inside such a configured RAR file can be bypassed and not detected by the initial file scan. The bypassed malicious content does not pose a risk until extracted from the RAR archive file. The malicious content will be detected and eliminated by RealTime Virus Scan / Auto-Protect when it is extracted from the RAR file on systems running Symantec Antivirus.
Symantec Response The vulnerability has been traced to a particular component build environment that was in use for a limited period. The vulnerable version affected Microsoft Windows builds only.

Recommendations: As a part of normal best practices, users should keep vendor-supplied patches for all application software and operating systems up-to-date. Symantec strongly recommends any affected customers, if they are not already running a non-vulnerable product version/build, update their product immediately to protect against these types of threats.

אני עדיין חושב שהם טובים, אומנם יש הרבה אלטרנטיבות למוצרים שלהם, והן אכן מתחרות כבדות, אבל עדיין, אני אוהב את היצירתיות של סימנטק, הם בין אחת החברות שתרמו הרבה מאוד לתחום האבטחת מידע, וכן, גם להאקינג :).
ואיך היה בכינרת? היה מאוד טוב, היה ממש ממש כיף.
